Matthews, North Carolina – James Allen Roberts, 80, of Matthews, North Carolina, died Tuesday, November 23, 2021. Born in Bristol, Virginia, he was the oldest child of the late James Clapp and Billie Dungan Roberts.
A Celebration of Daily life for James will be held at a later day.
Allen grew up in Bristol, Virginia and graduated from Bristol Virginia Higher College. He graduated from Virginia Tech with an Industrial Engineering Degree and from Widener College with a Master of Enterprise Administration diploma.
He went to get the job done with the DuPont Corporation in Camden, South Carolina as an engineer and later on transferred with DuPont to Wilmington, Delaware as a Business Analyst and then a Organization Evaluation Supervisor. Following a prolonged profession with DuPont, Allen retired, then joined The Forum Corporation of Boston as a Director. Alongside with that came a transfer to Pittsburgh on a agreement with Mellon Bank, the place he turned a vice-president. When Allen retired from Discussion board, he and Patty moved to Camden and got involved in volunteer do the job.
He was a Trustee and Elder in the Presbyterian Church and Treasure of Close friends of the Kershaw County Library. Right after that he joined the Board of the Kershaw County Library and grew to become Chair. Later he joined the Historic Landmarks Commission of Camden and grew to become its Chair. He was also on the Board of the Historic Society and volunteered for lots of decades in the meals pantry of Christian Community Ministries.
In addition to volunteering, he liked the seashore and the mountains. He appreciated to vacation and frequented a lot of sites in and outside the United States. He specially preferred Europe, specially Sicily, Italy. His beloved trip was to Turkey. He appreciated outdated historic residences and buildings, antique furnishings and silver, a glass of great wine, the tunes of Mozart, and the Rolling Stones.
Allen is survived by Patricia, his wife and greatest mate of 55 a long time daughters, Elizabeth Gern (Carl) and Susan Dinlocker (John) grandchildren, Erin Dinlocker, Chloe Gern, Will Gern, Emily Dinlocker, and Allison Dinlocker and his sisters, Diane Francis (Joe) and Joan Jackson.
In addition to his dad and mom, he was predeceased by his young brother, John Randolph Roberts.
Memorials could be built to Bethesda Presbyterian Church, 502 East Dekalb Road, Camden, SC 29020 or to the charity of one’s alternative.
